MOH's Engagement Party

So my best friend and maid of honor is getting married! YAYYYYY! So now in addition to everything else we've gone through together, we also get to be brides together! But though I love Bride Wars, no, it is not competitive like that nor does it foster any resentment or jealousy like Kate and Anne! LOL!

So now that that's out of the way, the party was held at the Lodge at Little Seneca Creek, and we had the difficult task of turning the WOOD lodge cabin (hence cabin!?!) into a beach themed engagement party!?! To do this, decor played a huge part in turning the party into our theme, but with a little smart thinking and total use of pinterest, we managed to pull it off.

I cannot emphasize enough, DECOR, DECOR, DECOR! Nothing transforms a party more than the decor! Without it, you'll just have a drab gathering without food and alcohol?! O_o   So if you're budget allows it, totally splurge a bit on the decor to bring together your theme or just create the ambiance you want.

That said, here are some of the things we had at the beach themed engagement party. I don't have a ton of photos, especially not many of the decor (which I previously shouted was SOOOO important! FAIL!) because I didn't bring my camera, but here are tidbits! I'll definitely start to bring my camera more for future events!

Centerpieces - Very simple - Floating candles, seashells, sand, silk flowers, and glass containers. Sand first, shells laid on top, flowers, water poured on shells, then floating candles. VOILA!

Important Note: Pour water ON shells and not directly on the sand because then the water will get cloudy. If you have enough time before the event, then the sand will settle before anyone even gets there.

Cupcakes - Any type of cake mix, icing, food coloring, brown sugar, drink umbrellas.

Cake pops placed in extra glass containers, filled with shredded bag/basket confetti, and shells.

Favors - Mason jars with chalkboard paint strategically hand-painted in hearts, with the couples name written on the bottom in white Sharper.

Bon Fresco

Bon Fresco is a little piece of heaven! Great gourmet sandwiches for a reasonable price! Another oddly placed shop in a office strip mall, but inside, feels like a cafe you would find in downtown dc.

Their chicken picante and london broil sandwiches are great! Haven't tried any other sandwiches yet because I love those, but def will soon! Their turkey veggie soup was also fantastic as well as the potato soup.Their sides are good but just fyi, the potato salad is more like a cold mashed potato. Its good because I like mashed potatoes but its not potato salad if thats what you're expecting.

Run, don't walk, and get yourself an amazing sandwich!

Sushi King

I have to say that this is one of my FAVORITE PLACES to EVER eat! LOVE THIS PLACE!

From the freshest sushi, to the uber nice management, this place is amazing!!!

I am a loyal Sushi King customer and don't go anywhere else but! As far as their specialty rolls go, their explosion roll is DELISH as well as their lady in red. I enjoy all other rolls, but those are must for me!!! Also, can't remember what its called but if you like sushi with cream cheese, they have a roll where its topped with different fish and one is topped with lobster! Think its the most pricy but again totally worth it, if you're not eating on a budget. But when do you honestly go eat sushi when you know you're on a budget?! Sushi isn't a cheap meal! LOL

Also, they give a military discount for all armed force service men and women so totally take advantage of that, if applicable to you. Just bring your military ID and voila!

Other than that, its a quaint little shop, yeah in a strip mall next to the mva express, but once inside, the vibe is nice.

Hi fellow foodies!

I'm a self-proclaimed food connoisseur with a passion for good food, good drinks, and good restaurants! Always wanting to be a chef, food comes naturally to me, so hey, if I can't be in the kitchen, might as well try eat my way through life! Like they say, "those who can, do; those who can't, critic!" LOL! Ok, I might have put my own spin onto the end, but you get the gist!

I'm one of those people who live to eat, not eat to live. LOL! My fiancee is absolutely terrified of when I go through my "craving" phase because that means I want to devour all the best life has to offer. Which means lots of money is spent on food and alki! LOL, but hey, he knows the type of person he wants to marry, so gotta love me for me! :)

Just wanted to start this blog as a way of getting my thoughts and reviews out about certain restaurants, hot spots, and bars around my local area!

Home to me is Columbia, MD. I've always loved this city! Growing up just down the street (Rt 29) in Silver Spring, Columbia became my happy place and my oasis for better quality of life. There are tons of restaurants, bars, and other establishments that feed my cravings and produce a fatter me! LOL! Jk!
